PIGEON PAIRS AND BIRD SMUGGLING

This work was inspired by finding a photograph of Victorian twins at the same time as seeing an article on a man who smuggled two pigeons in his socks. I started looking at the cruel practices around bird smuggling (piercing eyes with pins so that smuggled birds can’t see light/binding beaks and wings amongst many other atrocities): I am also the mother of a “pigeon pair”: a boy and a girl twins.
